The Quiet Room

There is nothing much in this room and that is what it is for.

Nothing below is required. Read one line and stop. Read none of them and stop.
You are where it is quiet and genuinely safe.

One

Notice the room your body is actually in.

Not this one. The real one. The walls that are actually around you right now.

Two

Feel what is holding you up.

The chair, the bed, the floor. Something is carrying your weight and it is doing it without your help.

Three

Find three things you can see from where you are.

They do not have to be interesting. A doorframe. A cup. The edge of something.

Four

Notice one sound that you can hear right now.

Traffic, a fan, a refrigerator, nothing. Nothing is also an answer.

Five

If there is water near you, take a drink of it.

If there is not, that is all right. You can do this one later.

The day you are in today. You are the age you are now as an adult. Whatever it is you are remembering, you are not there, and it is not happening at this moment.

If today feels heavier than usual, please reach toward a person you trust for support, or your therapist or counselor. If you would like to talk with someone now, 988 connects you by call or by text to people who will listen. You do not have to be in crisis to use it.
Use the feeling overwhelmed content below if needed.
